Spruce Pine Public Works

The Public Works Department for the Town of Spruce Pine has the challenging responsibility of keeping things running smoothly in the city limits and beyond. While the Town contracts with American Water Services to operate both the water and wastewater plants, the Public Works Department maintains the distribution and collection system for both water and wastewater. This department installs, maintains and reads water meters. Our employees are responsible for city street maintenance (including snow removal), leaf pickup, brush pickup, white goods pickup and more.

Elbert Stamey is the Public Works Director for the Town of Spruce Pine. He supervises a full-time crew of six employees. Hours for the Public Works Department are from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. Brush pickup is scheduled for the second and fourth Thursdays each month, white goods pickup is slated for the first Monday of each month. These tasks are often performed at other times as well, when the need arises.

Work is scheduled for the Public Works Department through a work order system. If you have need of a town-provided service, please call the Town Hall at 765-3000. The office hours are 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. If you have a water, sewer or street emergency after hours, call the Spruce Pine Water Treatment Plant at 765-3011
